Umfeld Pilot

Umfeld is German for “social environment”. In this game, “Umfeld” is also the name of a toy village designed to resemble a German rural setting, in which a serious case of intimate partner violence happened. Looking back, the villagers question whether they could have seen it coming. By accessing their memories, you help them retrospectively build a supportive network that might have prevented the violence - and create a better reality.

Sensitive Content. The prosocial serious game "Umfeld" provides information about intimate partner violence and aims to raise awareness among those who are not affected themselves. It is designed for grown-ups (18+) and not for juniors. It contains moderate textual and comic-style representations of violence-related situations and their conditions.

Requirements. Play this game with a mouse in your browser, best using Chrome (tested on Windows/Mac with Chrome/Firefox; problems may occur on Mac/Safari). Good internet connection required for loading; currently it doesn't support mobile devices. Activate full screen mode (optimised for 16:9) with the blue button at the bottom right.

Credits. The game was developed by Hochschule RheinMain (Wiesbaden, Germany) as part of the research project AusWege by an interdisciplinary team of game design and applied social science, funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
